Completion of Salma Dam

The dam was inaugurated on 4 June 2016 by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
Salma Dam, also called Afghan-India Friendship Dam, is a hydroelectric and irrigation dam project located on the Hari River in Chishti Sharif District of Herat Province in western Afghanistan. Now, it has been completed.
The hydroelectric plant produces 42 MW of power and provides irrigation for 75,000 hectares of farmland (stabilising the existing irrigation of 35,000 hectares and development of irrigation facilities to an additional 40,000 hectares of land).
Salma Dam is built by Indian company. Early in 1978, India was planned to construct this dam, but it was suspended owing to several reasons.
Site location of dam has big grade and many gravels, if there is no construction facilities and tools, the construction and later-stage maintenance will have problems. Nowadays, self drilling anchor bolt is one of the most efficient methods for supporting dam and other infrastructure constructions. As for advanced support, later-stage maintenance and reinforcement, self drilling anchor bolt has function that other methods is out of reach: drilling, grouting and anchoring can be done simultaneously; after drilling, anchor bar needn’t to be pulled out, which will prevent collapse.
Completion of Salma Dam marks that the relationship development between Afghan and India has reached new stage. Two countries will strengthen cooperation in several fields and respond to threat of terrorism and extremism together.
