Work is underway on the Lingotto-Bengasi (Line 1) section of the Turin underground. On 07.07.2014 Infra. To awarded to C.C.C. (Consorzio Cooperative Costruzioni), replacing Seli/Coopsette JV, the three-year contract. The new section will be opened in 2017.
The project includes the construction of two stations, Italia'61-Regione Piemonte under Nizza street and Bengasi below the square, 2 ventilation shafts (PB1 and PB2) along the section, a shaft (PBT) at the end of the section located 200 m beyond the station Bengasi, and structure for the future construction of the branch line to the railway station of Lingotto. The end of the line has been designed to allow for a possible metro extension to municipalities of Nichelino and Moncalieri.
The 1.9 km-long tunnel will be driven by EPB (diameter 7.5 m). In a first phase the TBM will dig a 200 m tunnel from the Bengasi square towards the south. In a second phase the TBM, after being transferred back to Bengasi square, will restart digging under Nizza street, cross at a 30m-depth the car underpass at Lingotto, to reach the extraction shaft near the station Lingotto. The rings storage and mucking extraction will be organized in Bengasi square, the main site for TBM.
